The charity’s 21st Monaco Red Nose Day takes place on December 6th, timed to coincide with Saint Nicholas Day. However, this year brings something different – a special collector’s edition featuring every red nose design released since 2005. It’s a chance for long time supporters to revisit old favourites and for newcomers to see how the campaign has evolved.

Les Enfants de Frankie has been supporting sick, disabled and disadvantaged children across Monaco and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region since 1997. Meanwhile, the association gained additional recognition in 2023 when Prince Albert II became its honorary president.

The collector’s range includes the classic red nose that started it all, along with the cheerful yellow smiley variations featuring stars, hearts, and winks that came later. There are also red and white versions, shopping bags, and Christmas baubles. All items are priced at €2.50 for noses and bags, and €5 for baubles, with every cent going directly to help vulnerable children.

Where and When

Sales already kicked off in mid-October and run through to the end of December. The red noses will be available at familiar spots including Carrefour, post offices across Monaco, local pharmacies, and at dedicated charity stands. The association will set up stands at Princess Grace Hospital in October 22nd and November 5th from 11am to 4pm, at the train station on October 29th from 8am to 6pm, and at Fontvieille Shopping Centre on November 12th and December 6th from 9am to 6pm.

This year also brings a social media element to the campaign. Supporters are encouraged to share photos or videos wearing their red noses with the hashtag #FrankieMonaco. The most popular post wins a prize from Frankie, the charity’s clown mascot. The idea is to spread awareness beyond Monaco’s borders and give the campaign a wider reach.

Princess Charlene and chihuahua Kita to join Rokethon’s charity walk https://monacolife.net/princess-charlene-andchihuahua-kita-to-join-rokethons-charity-walk/ Tue, 28 Oct 2025 10:00:50 +0000 https://monacolife.net/?p=115161 Princess Charlene is set to attend Monaco’s second annual Rokethon charity walk, joining participants and their dogs at the Chapiteau de Fontvieille on November 2nd to raise awareness about animal abandonment.

Speaking at a press conference on October 27th, Rokethon president Sylvia Sermenghi outlined the association’s mission and revealed details about the upcoming event.

“What do we want to do at Rokethon? We want to give a voice to the voiceless. That’s what it’s all about,” Sermenghi explained, sharing emotional stories of abandoned animals including Shana, rejected by her owner who claimed she could no longer care for her, and Mr Jack, who lost an eye and was abandoned when his owner’s new partner didn’t want him.

The president described abandoned animals as “the wounded of abandonment” and outlined Rokethon’s ambitious long-term goal of purchasing a large property to care for elderly, abandoned, and mistreated dogs that cannot find refuge elsewhere. “An animal is a living being above all. A living being who feels things. They feel abandonment. They can suffer from it. It’s suffering,” Sermenghi said.

Princess Charlene, who participated in last year’s inaugural event, will once again join the walk with her chihuahua Kita.

“For me, it’s really a great honour, because we know her commitment to the animal cause,” Sermenghi said of the Princess’s involvement.

Event programme

The day will begin at 10am with an opening ceremony, followed by the symbolic walk around the chapiteau. Sponsors will contribute €2 for each kilometre completed, and everyone who completes the course will receive a commemorative medal. “We want to do it in a humble way. Humility really remains our watchword. Because humility allows us to have even more for the animals,” Sermenghi said.

Following the walk, there will be a fashion parade titled ‘Walk me home and love me fur-ever’, where models and dogs that are up for adoption will walk together wearing ethical creations made from ecological fur.

The ambassador from Perroton, Madrid’s major annual animal charity run, will also be attending, and will share insights from the Spanish event that inspired Rokethon’s creation.

Additionally, Lucas Bérullier, founder of Woofest, will bring interactive activities for dogs throughout the day. “We need to create emotion if we want to make things change. And we need to make things change. There’s a lot of suffering, mistreatment. And each person here, in this room, can make a small difference,” Bérullier said. He also spoke about his own evolution, noting that he once purchased dogs from breeders but has since changed his views. “We’re living proof that we can change, that we can evolve and learn things.”

Lastly, the event will also include stands from various welfare organisations, a giant tombola, and trophy presentations recognising outstanding contributions to animal welfare. Fashion photographer Toni Meneguzzo will set up a studio to capture portraits of human and canine duos throughout the day.

Registration information

All participating dogs must have identification microchips and up-to-date vaccinations for distemper, parvovirus, kennel cough, giardia, hepatitis, and parainfluenza. Dogs on the potentially dangerous breeds register may participate provided owners hold the necessary permits, liability insurance and use both muzzles and leads.

Registration details are available at www.rokethon.com or by calling 06 88 03 40 50.

With good weather forecast for November 2nd, organisers are expecting a strong turnout for an event that promises entertainment -for both owners and their loyal companions – , education, and above all, a powerful message: adopt, don’t shop.

British Association of Monaco celebrates 90 years of community, continuity and care https://monacolife.net/british-association-of-monaco-celebrates-90-years-of-community-continuity-and-care/ Mon, 27 Oct 2025 12:55:41 +0000 https://monacolife.net/?p=115095 The British Association of Monaco (BAM), one of the oldest expat associations in the Principality, is celebrating its 90th anniversary this month, marking nearly a century of dedication to supporting the English-speaking community in Monaco and surrounding areas.

Founded on 30th October 1935, the British Association of Monaco began its journey under the leadership of Rear Admiral J.D. Nares, with Admiral Sir Ernest Gaunt as Vice Chairman and a committed group of committee members. What started as a modest initiative to serve British residents in Monaco has grown into a dynamic and respected organisation with a core mission rooted in community and care.

Even during the difficult years of the Second World War, when records from 1941 to 1945 are notably absent, the Association continued to represent British nationals, quietly assisting those in need and maintaining ties with the Consular corps and Princely Government. That commitment to welfare — discreet and deeply human — has remained the beating heart of BAM for nine decades.

A vital part of Monaco’s Anglophone community

Today, BAM has a thriving membership of 250 people and plays a central role in Monaco’s international community. Through its Community Support Team, the Association upholds strict confidentiality standards and assesses each welfare case with compassion and diligence, continuing its founding mission to provide help where it’s most needed.

“The British Association of Monaco was founded to bring together English-speaking people in Monaco and the surrounding areas,” said Yvonne Bernhardt, current President of BAM. “Our focus on welfare has continued through to the present day, and our Community Support Team maintains the same high standards as ever.”

Beyond welfare, BAM fosters connection and cultural exchange through a lively programme of regular monthly events, special celebrations — such as the annual tribute to the King’s Official Birthday — and a monthly newsletter that keeps members informed and engaged. The Association also works closely with Monaco’s administrative bodies, strengthening the bridge between the Anglophone community and local institutions.

Looking ahead with pride and purpose

As BAM enters its tenth decade, the Association continues to grow, powered by a voluntary committee and an enthusiastic team. The group is elected annually by members and works tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the organisation active, inclusive and forward-looking.

“The Association continues to go from strength to strength,” said Bernhardt. “We are proud of our history, but just as proud of what we continue to offer today — friendship, support and a sense of belonging to a truly international community.”

From its beginnings in 1935 to its milestone 90th anniversary, the British Association of Monaco stands as a testament to enduring values of solidarity, service and community spirit in the heart of the Principality.

A special event will be held on Thursday 30th October at the offices of the International Hydrographic Organisation, where the first official meeting was held. Past presidents and former committee members will re-enact a “celebratory committee meeting” to mark the 90th anniversary of the British Association of Monaco.

]]> New Moods returns to Monaco with tribute legends, gourmet cocktails, and rock-inspired indulgence https://monacolife.net/new-moods-returns-to-monaco-with-tribute-legends-gourmet-cocktails-and-rock-inspired-indulgence/ Thu, 23 Oct 2025 14:25:25 +0000 https://monacolife.net/?p=114931 Following a dazzling debut season, New Moods is back in Monte-Carlo for its second act. Running until 28th March 2026, the velvet-clad concert hall on Place du Casino promises an electrifying line-up of 34 tribute bands, an all-new gourmet menu by Café de Paris Monte-Carlo’s chef Victor Marion, XXL cocktails, and festive flair that places it at the heart of Monaco’s live music scene once again.

After a triumphant opening in December 2024, New Moods has firmly re-established itself as a key player in Monaco’s vibrant nightlife. This autumn, the intimate red-and-gold venue is back with a programme designed to delight music lovers and night owls alike. From the soulful melodies of Elton John to the anthemic beats of Queen, Oasis, U2, and Coldplay, the season reads like a who’s who of rock royalty.

Also on stage this season are tributes to ACDC, The Beatles, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley and Toto, with a notable expansion into the French music scene through homages to France Gall, Claude Nougaro and the legendary band Téléphone. Across 34 nights until 28th March 2026, New Moods will once again pulse with the energy of iconic soundscapes — all in the heart of Monte-Carlo.

Gastronomy meets music with a Café de Paris twist

This year’s season introduces an all-new culinary line-up, crafted by Victor Marion, chef of the renowned Brasserie du Café de Paris. Guests can indulge in elegant yet playful creations such as the Lobster Brioche, a decadent Truffled Croque-Monsieur, and the ‘Moods’ Madeleine draped in melted cheese. Sweet-toothed revellers can finish with warm churros dipped in caramel sauce.

Signature XXL cocktails return with a bold twist — the ‘Big Moods’ trio of Spritz options and the standout ‘Triple Margarita’, a punchy blend of Olmeca Tequila, Cointreau and lime with a salted rim. The drinks, like the décor, are an homage to New Moods’ signature mix of opulence and rebellious spirit.

A Monaco icon reborn

Under the artistic direction of Alfonso Ciulla and the leadership of Stéphane Lobono, the return of New Moods is part of a wider cultural revival championed by SBM’s Deputy Chairman Stéphane Valeri. Originally active from 2008 to 2011, the venue now blends nostalgic soul with modern glamour, reconnecting Monte-Carlo’s musical heritage with a new generation of audiences.

And with a special reopening planned for the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix from 5th to 7th June, New Moods is proving that in Monaco, the music never really stops — it just gets louder.

Smakelijk! reopens with refined Belgian flavours, signature fries and family brunches https://monacolife.net/smakelijk-reopens-with-refined-belgian-flavours-signature-fries-and-family-brunches/ Wed, 22 Oct 2025 11:13:37 +0000 https://monacolife.net/?p=114772 Monaco’s only Belgian brasserie Smakelijk! has officially reopened its doors at Le Méridien Beach Plaza — and it’s returned with a refined new menu, daily gourmet specials, and its iconic Sunday brunch, promising a dining experience that’s as comforting as it is creative.

Overlooking the glittering Mediterranean, Smakelijk! – which means ‘enjoy your meal’ in Dutch – blends the warmth of a traditional Belgian brasserie with contemporary culinary flair. Designed by Studio Adjamé, its stylish, vintage-inspired interior — complete with plush banquettes, artful tiling, and charming market finds — is as inviting as the dishes that emerge from the kitchen.

A Celebration of Belgian Classics — and So Much More

Now open for lunch Monday through Saturday, Smakelijk! stays true to its roots with a menu full of Belgian favourites: rich Liège-style meatballs, tender steak tartare, golden sole meunière, and the ever-essential moules marinières. Crème brûlée and café liégeois finish things off with sweet nostalgia.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Every day brings a new Rendez-vous Gourmand — a chef’s special inspired by seasonal Mediterranean produce and creative international twists. Think: spaghetti alle vongole with a chilli kick on Monday, rockfish bouillabaisse with garlic croutons on Friday, and a Saturday special featuring charcoal-roasted Noir de Bourgogne chicken and baby potatoes. Each dish offers something new, making this a place you’ll want to return to — again and again.

The Best Fries in Monaco? Absolutely.

Ask any local gourmand, and they’ll tell you: Smakelijk! serves the best gourmet fries in the Principality — and quite possibly beyond. In partnership with Frites Atelier, the acclaimed Dutch concept by Michelin-starred chef Sergio Herman, Smakelijk! brings an elevated take on the humble fry.

Crafted from specially selected Dutch potatoes, these fries are crisped to golden perfection and paired with indulgent toppings: slow-cooked caramelised pork shoulder with crispy onions, truffle cream with aged Parmesan, or even nacho-style fries with Jack Daniel’s cheese, pickles, and jalapeños. And the croquettes? Quite frankly, the best in Monaco — crunchy on the outside, rich and oozing within. We can personally vouch for that.

Family Sundays Are Back

Sundays at Smakelijk! are all about family — and flavour. The much-loved Sunday Brunch returns as a vibrant mix of sweet and savoury indulgence, including a chocolate fountain.

While grown-ups linger over fresh-baked pastries and generous buffet selections, children ages 4 to 12 can join the Kids Club, complete with nature-themed activities and hands-on pastry workshops. From macarons to cake pops, young chefs roll up their sleeves and get baking — supervised by trained staff in a safe and joyful environment.

It’s more than a meal. It’s a Sunday ritual that brings everyone to the table — and keeps them smiling long after dessert.

A Table by the Sea

Whether you’re soaking up the midday sun on the seaside terrace or enjoying a cosy lunch indoors, Smakelijk! delivers on every front: atmosphere, service, price, and — most importantly — taste. It’s a return worth celebrating, and a table worth reserving.

]]> Rokethon charity run returns: where dogs and owners race for a cause https://monacolife.net/rokethon-charity-run-returns-where-dogs-and-owners-race-for-a-cause/ Mon, 20 Oct 2025 18:46:39 +0000 https://monacolife.net/?p=114480 Rokethon’s charity walk returns on November 2nd at Monaco’s Chapiteau de Fontvieille, with the race starting at 10am and activities running throughout the day.

Dog owners are invited to run or walk the 1km course alongside their pets, with each kilometre completed raising €2.

The event, organised in partnership with Woofest, aims to raise awareness about animal abandonment and mistreatment. In 2024 alone, 117,000 cats and dogs were abandoned in France, a figure that according to organisers remains far too high.

The mission draws inspiration from primatologist’s Jane Goodall’s words about unconditional love and loyalty. “Dogs teach us so much. It’s time to give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves.”

Beyond the race, Rokethon offers family-friendly entertainment throughout the day, including activities, talks on pet health and wellbeing, and a special parade under the motto ‘Walk me home and love me fur-ever’. The message is adopt, don’t shop.

All participating dogs must meet strict requirements, including identification microchips, up-to-date vaccinations for distemper, parvovirus, kennel cough, giardia, hepatitis, and parainfluenza.

Veterinary services will be on-site during the event, and random checks will ensure hygiene and safety standards are maintained. Dogs on the potentially dangerous breeds register may participate, provided owners hold the necessary permits, liability insurance, and use both muzzles and leads.

Registration details are available at www.rokethon.com or by calling 06 88 03 40 50.

National Day 2025: Monaco unveils full programme of concerts, comedy and tradition https://monacolife.net/national-day-2025-monaco-unveils-full-programme-of-concerts-comedy-and-tradition/ Thu, 16 Oct 2025 00:14:09 +0000 https://monacolife.net/?p=114419 Monaco is preparing to mark its Fête Nationale 2025 with a vibrant and diverse cultural line-up that will unfold over several days. Organised by the Mairie de Monaco, the programme is designed to appeal to all ages and backgrounds, with a blend of music, theatre, comedy, fireworks, and time-honoured local traditions. All events are free of charge for Monégasques and residents.

The celebrations begin on Saturday 15th November with a theatrical performance of L’Île au Trésor at Espace Léo Ferré. Designed for children aged five and up, the show invites families on a high-seas adventure featuring pirates, mysterious maps, and hidden treasure. It promises an engaging and lively afternoon for the youngest residents of the Principality.

On Tuesday 18th November, the sky above Port Hercule will be lit up with a pyromelodic fireworks display starting at 8:10pm, setting the tone for the National Day festivities. The evening continues with a concert by Superbus at 9pm at Espace Léo Ferré. The French pop-rock band, whose early 2000s hits remain widely recognised, will perform a mix of their classic tracks and newer material. The event is expected to draw a wide audience of fans and first-time listeners alike.

The following evening, on Wednesday 19th November, comedian and actress Philippine Delaire will take to the stage at Espace Léo Ferré with her show Fille à papa. Known for her quick wit and energetic delivery, Delaire brings a refreshing and generational take on modern life, with sketches that combine sharp humour and self-awareness.

Admission to the theatre performances and the Superbus concert is by invitation only. Invitations will be distributed in person at Espace Léo Ferré from 11am to 6pm, and at the Mairie de Monaco from 9am to 4pm. Valid identification must be presented, including ID cards, residency permits, or family books for children. On Tuesday 4th November, distribution will be open to Monégasque nationals, their spouses, and children. On Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th November, invitations will also be available to residents. One invitation will be issued per eligible document, subject to availability.

In keeping with tradition, Marché de la Condamine will host its own Fête Nationale festivities on Wednesday 19th November. From morning until early afternoon, visitors will be invited to sample local culinary specialties. At midday, a giant Stockfish lunch will be served, continuing a much-loved custom. The day will close with a lively musical performance at 7:30pm, adding a festive soundtrack to this important national occasion.

]]> Young minds to take to the stage as ISM hosts Monaco’s only TEDxYouth event https://monacolife.net/young-minds-to-take-to-the-stage-as-ism-hosts-monacos-only-tedxyouth-event/ Tue, 14 Oct 2025 15:32:03 +0000 https://monacolife.net/?p=114282 On Saturday 18th October, the International School of Monaco will open its doors for a unique showcase of student voices during the Principality’s only TEDxYouth event, themed ‘The Power of Perspective’.

The event, now in its fourth edition, is entirely student-led and aims to empower young speakers aged 11 to 16 to share original ideas in the renowned TED format. A parent and a teacher from ISM will also take part as speakers.

Held in the school’s auditorium at 2pm, the two-hour programme includes live talks, musical performances from the ISM Voices student choir and a Year 11 vocal trio, and an interactive quiz. Admission is limited to 100 seats, with tickets priced at €10.

Exploring ‘The Power of Perspective’

The theme for this year, chosen by students, centres on how personal perspective influences culture, communication, and understanding. According to event co-curator Alicia Sedgwick, the theme was inspired by examples like the Inuit people’s many words for snow — a reflection of how environment and necessity shape language and perception.

“Recognising perspective’s impact in everyday life helps us understand others better, reduce conflicts, and make fairer decisions,” said Sedgwick. “It fosters empathy, improves communication, and encourages open-mindedness. By appreciating different viewpoints, we build stronger relationships, adapt to change, and create more inclusive communities.”

Each talk will be filmed and uploaded to the official TED YouTube channel, helping Monaco’s young voices reach a global audience.

A platform for tomorrow’s leaders

Since its inception, ISM’s TEDxYouth initiative has promoted public speaking, critical thinking and global citizenship. It reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to nurturing confident, articulate students who are engaged in global dialogue.

The event is supported by the ISM Parent Teachers Association (PTA), Enhance Me, Moravia Yachting, and San Lorenzo Monaco.
